San Antonio, Tx.-
……….
In Texas, they give a hundred dollars to get vaccinated
By Jose Luis Montemayor
Reynosa, Tam.-
Because vaccination times are slower in Mexico, Marcos decided to get the vaccine in San Antonio, Texas. And they even gave him a hundred dollars!
He was one of the three million teachers in Mexico who received the CanSino vaccine, against Covid-19.
“I have a scheduled trip to the United States at the end of November, but I saw on the news that they were already going to ask for the vaccination card. As I am a teacher they gave me the CanSino and that vaccine is not authorized in the United States because it is Chinese”, he said.
So he decided to buy a flight to San Antonio, where a friend met him.
It was another friend of Austin who recommended that she look for an appointment on the heb.com portal where she looked for the closest zip code and could choose the vaccine, between Pfizer, Modera, and Johnson & Johnson.
“I decided to wear Johnson & Johnson because it is a single shot, in addition to the fact that since there are anti-vaccine groups, there are government programs in San Antonio that offer incentives for you to get vaccinated: if you do it on such a day they give you a hundred dollars”, he commented.
He pointed out that she had his appointment at 4:00 in the afternoon, but decided to go to line up in the waiting line during the morning, to advance the process.
“There were about 10 15-year-old kids in the place, they were from Guanajuato; They said it was because in their state they were putting Sputnik and they were not going to be able to travel, for which they asked for Johnson & Johnson. I also saw several gringos who went to Pfizer”, he said.
Then he filled out a form with his information, an address in the United States, and a telephone number, in addition to answering questions about his health.
“Then a nurse calls you and explains the advantages of getting vaccinated, warns you that your arm may hurt, then they take you to a room in case there are reactions and then they give you the vaccination card, which with that I will be able to cross the border”.
In the end, they gave him a $100 card that I could spend at HEB, to buy whatever he wanted.
“It’s funny, there are so many people who don’t want to be vaccinated in Texas that they even offer them money and I was one of them”, said the Monterrey native.
